Silvermine Nature Reserve is located in the central section of the Table Mountain National Park and offers hikes on the east and the west side of the reserve with trails to suit hikers of all levels of fitness. In 1675 it was thought that these mountains contained silver; shafts were sunk to try to find it. No silver was ever found but the name has stuck. This is a scenic hiking route through fynbos that ends with a breath-taking view over False Bay, Hout Bay harbour, Chapman’s Peak drive and the ocean stretching out into the distance. We also get to visit the famous Elephants eye cave before ending our hike with a swim in the dam on a hot summer’s day.
